Sneak Peek/Review - Hellgate: London

I’m a big computer geek, as if you couldn’t tell already, and a goodly amount of my free time is tied up with video games. I’ve been taking a psuedo-break from my World of Warcraft addiction (meaning I still play WoW.. just not quite *as* much) and have been giving a couple games from [...]

APOD Widget 1.3

I’ve made a minor tweak to my APOD Widget, allowing for a time offset. All you need to do is configure your widget and enter the number of hours, positive or negative, that you would like the time to be offset to.
The widget is available here:

Wordpress 2.2.2!

Now that Wordpress 2.2 has been out for a while, I figured it was time to upgrade. The blog is now up and running using the latest and greatest of internet gadgetry (including migrating to MySQL 5), so be sure to let me know if anything blows up or looks quirky/out of place.

MSSQL Changing owners, automagically!

I was recently working with a database where there were a number of tables that *gasp* didn’t belong to dbo. Now this isn’t the end of the world, but best practices tend to lean towards making dbo the owner of new tables to avoid potential ownership permission issues.
Now I wouldn’t call myself lazy, but [...]

Gmail & Google Apps

The first time I used Gmail I was hooked. It was quick, clean, and simple, exactly what I wanted from a webmail client. I’d been a Yahoo! mail user for quite a while (as well as Hotmail back before MS ruined it), but I converted over to Gmail as soon as I could. [...]

Expressly Oracle

At my last job, I spent a considerable amount of time using SQL. I pretty much lived, ate, and breathed it. For good or for ill the engine that I learned on was Microsoft SQL Server, which wasn’t too bad to learn. At my current position I’m getting exposure to three flavors [...]

More fun with WoW (and Macros)

In a patch a little while back, macros in the World of Warcraft became incredibly powerful. There are too many various functions to name here, so I’ll just mention a couple that I find immensly useful on my warlock: “/castsequence” and “/focus”.
The following macro uses “/focus” and “/clearfocus” to set and clear focus, respectively. It [...]

WoW > All

After reading a recent article on BBC News, I couldn’t help but feel compelled to post. I play World of Warcraft, along with something close to 8 million other people, and found a particular quote in the article rather interesting:
“Research by security firm Symantec suggests that the raw value of a WoW account is [...]

Cars!

A good friend of mine has graciously allowed me to “help” him work on his 1969 Dodge Charger, and so I’ve spent a few weekends over at his place pulling parts off and assessing the state of things. The word help was in quotations above because I use the term very.. loosely. My [...]

Watij + Fitnesse = Witnesse? (or Fatij?)

I played around a little bit with Watir (Web Application Testing in Ruby) at my last job, but we never had a chance to really utilize it beyond some basic proof-of-concept type scripts. Now at my current job I’ve been working with Watij (Web Application Testing in Java), which shares the same principles as [...]
